Balance of Power takes place somewhere post-2020, very shortly after. The U.S.A. has deteriorated into an autocratic regime which
is fighting a losing battle against the millions of partisans dispersed throughout the massive area they formerly derided as
'flyover country'. Thousands of independent and unorganized consume most of the resources available to the central government
while a more coherent force known as the League of Freeholds does much more damage.
The Freehold organizations take many forms, from large well-financed militias to small cells of just a few. In all cases they
embody all the great cliches of action/adventure tales: the men are (mostly) at once handsome and fearless, sensitive and chivalrous
and brutal to their enemies. Above all they never back down from evil and believe that justice is done when wicked people die.
The women are beautiful and charming, smart and badass to the max. A few are tragic of course but they overcome it. OK, some die
tragically and so do some of the guys. Whatchagonnado?
