Human Harvest

This may not be exactly what you're thinking of.... not exactly.  Involuntary organ donation and all.  That's a peripheral aspect, but this is more about the general trafficking in live humans by the Medical Industry. 

It's been said often enough that the people who profit from you being sick are not gonna try to heal you, or that there's no money in dead people and no money in healthy people - it's all in the middle. 

The funeral industry used to get a good piece, once.  But with more people being cremated that's not what it used to be.  At least the funeral folks are pretty decent to deal with and you're done.  Your next of kin will have to do the complaining if needed. 

The Medical Industry on the other hand can milk you for a good long while, even when they're mostly on the level.  When they ain't...

This story was inspired by actual events, as they say about TV movies and such, and being as the people involved weren't in some big city hospital but rather out in flyover country it's a little more down-to-earth kind of chicanery and corruption and such. 

Let's say Robin Cook meets Clayton Lindemuth, master of rural noir.  You could say Clayton knows about the darkness inside of human beings as well as Dr. Cook understnds the physical workings.  Maybe better.
