Shop Opening: Terry and his wife Amanda Riley, who practiced Wicca, opened the Magick Moon shop at 4914A East Nettleton Avenue in Jonesboro in June 1993, to sell books, herbs, crystals, and other supplies for pagan practices. The Kerfuffle: Just two days after the shop opened, the landlord, Steve Griffin, approached the Rileys and told them their month-to-month lease would not be renewed. Griffin was accompanied by two ministers from a local church who pressured him to evict the Rileys, urging other business owners not to rent to them. Media Attention: After the Rileys told their story to a local newspaper, the incident gained significant local and national media attention, including a segment on Inside Edition. The Rileys also experienced public hostility in the religiously conservative area, nicknamed "Fort God". The March: The controversy culminated in Terry Riley leading a march for religious freedom through the streets of Jonesboro on August 1, 1993.
