The letter

Got a letter the other day. The one I get every ten years, since 1984 anyway. High school class reunion. Never did figure out why people do them. Never went to one. Last time, ten years ago, I ran into an acquaintance from my graduating class who asked me if I was going. I said as I recollect most of them sumbitches didn't like me forty years ago and don't imagine that's changed much. And I don't reckon it's any different after fifty years.

One thing that is different is there are fewer of us. Every time they have a list of the dead ones, and it'll be longer this time because I know of a couple that have shuffled off the coil in the past couple of years. Aside from that I doubt much has changed.

I had some friends in high school, not sure how many. Lemme think, Idunno maybe a half dozen. That's out of a hundred and forty four. One of my friends is dead, bought it in a motorcycle accident at 41. One of those websites that you put in a name and it supposedly tells you about them says he's 41 and lives in Asheboro, North Carolina. Well he doesn't live there because he's dead. Another site tells me he's 67, about my age. I'm 68, as a 1974 high school grad would be, give or take. I wouldn't give them my credit card number.

Most of the Interweb sucks donkey balls. Diseased donkey balls. Know a thing or two about the Internet, may have written a tiny piece of it once, a few hundred lines of code, long gone by now. That was 1989 or so, most people didn't know what the Internet was. Al Gore was just finding about its existence about that time.

Another of my half-dozen or so friends disappeared into New York City long ago and I eventually lost touch. He's one of the few I would be interested in seeing again. One girlfriend, still living, still living here where we grew up. That could have been something, probably should have. She wanted it to be but it was too early for me or something. I wouldn't mind seeing her but we live not ten miles apart and if either of us wanted to we could. Sweet kid.

Who else was a friend? One dude I palled around with a lot quit before graduation, went to work for the railroad, good deal in those days. Died in a traffic accident a few years later.

Probably could think of another one or two. Might look at the list, just out of curiosity. As I said, most of them didn't care for me and I pretty much reciprocated. And the more I learn about people, people in general or individuals, the less I like them. So no reunions. Probably I won't be extant in another ten years, doctors tried their best to kill me three years ago, three different hospitals tried get rid of me and failed. The Medical Industry is so incompetent they can't even kill people when they're trying. It's when they're supposedly trying to save you it gets dangerous.

When I create accounts on social media sites and it asks for my education I put Peyton Place High School and Dilbert University. That pretty much describes my journey, leaving the small town for the corporate environment. Peyton Place, the book, was actually pretty tame. I suppose when it was written (the year I was born) you had to be. I have a suspicion the way people behaved wasn't much different than today, or when I was growing up. If here was more of the sex going on it was only because of the pill. With almost no risk people went nuts. But I have again digressed. I was going to talk about Dilbert.

Dilbert's creator recently had enough of the hypocrisy and stupidity of the majority of Homo sapiens and wrote them off. He got canceled as they say, but he knew what he was doing and like most smart people he turned his back on the flock of idiots. But before he retired he regularly chronicled that stupidity and hyporcisy in the comics. Dilbert world was the real world, and not just the corporate world. The whole damn world is like that, punishing the smart and industrious and rewarding the lazy and dishonest.
