Retrieving the Trailblazer at Sam's house, they began the drive back to Trumann by way of Jonesboro. "What do you think? Jessica asked him. "Anything seem familary?" "Not much. Little things, like hunting and fishing. Maybe if we keep going places and doing things, something may register. "I believe it will. It'll take time. I'm interested in meeting Brenda." "Yeah, maybe she can tell me something. Charlie doesn't have much use for modern medicine, but seems to respect Brenda." "That's what I was thinking. Want to stop and eat in Jonesboro?" "If you know a quiet place." Alex said. "I'm not crazy about noise and crowds." "There's a nice place on Caraway," Jessoca said, "fairly new. Kasey and I had lunch there one day. Mexican, high-dollar. So pretty calm." "That sounds good."
"A couple of messages came in while we were on the road." Jessica said after they were seated in the Avocado Bar and Grill. "Let's see what we have." She looked at her phone for a few minutes. "Only thing that looks urgent is something from Harry." she said. "Let me check in." She tapped and swiped a few times, then put the phone down. "He says he has some interesting developments." she said. "We can come back over tomorrow. What would you like to do with the rest of the day?" "I need to get started driving again. Maybe go out to the farm and practice off the road until I'm comfortable. Look the place over some more, decide what to do, maybe about staying there again part of the time." "Let's plan on that then." Jessica said. "When we get home I'll check my email and see if our realtors have come up with anything. If so we may be able to drive by and take a look on the way." It was already dark when they arrived. The night weather was mild, and Jessica joined him for a drink on the back deck before bed, with the customary cigar for Alex. He fell asleep as promptly as he had been since he had started having a drink before bed. More importantly, what dreams he had didn't bother him. He could seldom remember having them. |
