Fri 01 Sep 2023 08:21:05 PM CDT That about it. 'course we get that stuff naturally, small farmers and ranchers direct, farmers markets, tradin' amongst ourselves. Goverment starting to attack them though, harassing the Amish and other small farmers. It'll come though, to all of us if something don't change. Still figuring it cracks before they get that far though, have plenty bigger things to worry about. Sun 03 Sep 2023 08:18:43 PM CDT That about right. Got another shot few days ago, swear them things gonna leave scars. Hell, after a few years of brown recluse bites they wasn't nothin' to get excited about, even if the first or second one dang near took my leg off. Didn't know how many shades of red-purple-black so many places on my leg could be, from shinbone to bottom of my foot. Ain't too keen on seenin' if I can develop a tolerance for them ants, hafta find all the nests and nukem. Probably a shotgun technique like with plants - glyphosate, diquat, 2-4-D. Had some trees I cleared around year before last still clean. Rather have something I knew would make them ants die agonizingly, butcha can't have everything. Just over halfway through Aztec Autumn, hard to put down. Dunno, he done had the new feller (first one got burnt up by the priests if you remember, heresy donchaknow) and the youngun happened to be in town (not knowin' it was his ole man being burnt) 'cept his mama was there with'em and tole him. He retrieved Pop's improvised spectacle from the ashes and now he wants revenge. Who wouldn't? He goes back home and figures to have a rebellion to expel the invaders, like that's gonna happen. I found him reverse-engineering gunpowder kinda improbable, and him gettin' a feller handy with makin stuff to construct an arquebus about the same. But there you are. He done had one woman die on him, ole man seems to have had that problem, and he met Coronado in a rather improbable scenario. Anyhow, promises to be interesting. Spose I'll probly end up readin' the rest eventually. Cool enough for workin' outdoors mosta the day, with a year of cleanup from construction ahead good thing. Only good thing about a summer this dry is not as much mowing. Course it kilt summa the young trees that I's gonna transplant, but always more'n I can get around to anyway. Got a couple of new ideas to try to improve survivability, see how that goes if I'm still around next gall, if not Jady J can look at'em and think about me once in a while. Later. Tue 05 Sep 2023 08:55:40 PM CDT Hadn't been doin' Backwoods as much lately, forgot how good they was on the mornin' and evenin' patrols. Chew on'em all day it seem and they don't come apart. Taste pretty good too. Don't do'em as much with a libation, alkyholic that is. Finished Aztec Autumn last night, figure to go ahead and do the rest of the sequels. Figuring probably won't be any more, since the last one was in 2012. Butchaneverknow. Anyhow, what happened was, our man got the war goin' after a few adventures among the various tribes, bangin' various native American cuties (one that wasn't so much) along the way, not only figured out the gunpowder thing but invented grenades, serious slaughter of hapless colonists (and some of his own that was less than enthusiastic) but of course (bein' the Mixtón War it didn't end well). Along the way he swore off boffin' every woman came handy, which was good 'cause the last one he meets is his ten-year-old daughter.
"Yes. Let me say just one thing more, and please put it at the end of your
chronicle. Our Mixton War is lost, and rightly so. I should never have begun
it. From the day of your Grandfather Mixtli's execution, I resented and
resisted the aliens among us. But, over time, I have met and admired many of
those aliens - the white Alonso, the black Esteban, the padre Quiroga, your
mulata mother Rebeca, and finally you, dear daughter, who commingle so many
different bloods. I realize now and I accept I am even proud that
your lovely face, Verónica, is the new face of The One World . To you
and to your sons and daughters and to The One World, I wish all good things."
So they burnt his ole man, one of them wimmen he enjoyed had a daughter, and he meets up with her after the last battle so she can write the story. Got it. Yeah, I'll probably read'em,
my last project gonna be finished in a couple of months, do the library right this time and probably find myself re-readin' quite a bit of stuff. Came across one of the early
Nick Carter books yesterday, gonna read it again. Valerie Moolman (wrote a few of'em) is one of the writers. It's '64
in Vietnam, just before that jackass got it going good. Lost a cousin there in '68, second tour (he one of them "advisers" that
went in early) and have a soft spot for Nixon 'cause he stopped it 'fore they got around to me. Read it years ago but it looks like
it's worth another look.
Thu 07 Sep 2023 10:59:59 PM CDT Darkness at Noon is where them J6 folks is about now. No tellin' how many they'll have in there before it's over, depending on how or when it's over. At least people been warned now, keepin' their heads down good, be hard to find any of'em. The feds already having to make fake "domestic terrorism" outfits, their Nazis in khakis and polo shirts ain't foolin' anybody and the occasional mentally deficient feller they can talk into doin' somethin' ain't worth puttin' on the news, dunno what they try next. Guess we'll see. Started on Aztec Blood, just a few pages in and like it. More fiction than history I guess, but a fun read. Reckon I'll finish them, finally things slowin' down some. Cooler and soon be raining some, be inside more. Thu 14 Sep 2023 10:04:53 PM CDT Pretty much. Figure Stinky Joe could give a pretty good account of himself, but not sure if I'd want them real dogs runnin' at large. Too many dumbasses and evil people have them, kids and ole ladies gittin' chewed up, usually fatally by them as shouldn't be here. Course a Glock with fifteen forties in it should take care of even two or three, way they seem to happen. Not that I'd want to have to, but speakin' of Glocks I really want a long slide. Got an old AMT seven-inch .45 from back in the day, favorite smith finally got the damthing working pretty good, but cost twice as much time he's through with it. Long pistols cool though, and easier to hit stuff further away with'em. Kind of. Speakin' of animals, new kitty-cat came to live here. Nice little tom showed up few months back, couldn't figure out where from a mile from highway and half mile from the nearest neighbor, 'less someone dropped it. Anyhow he mysteriously absconded couple days 'fore the tornado. This one a girl, she'll stick around and eat mice. When she gets bigger, some of them field mice almost as big as her. Keep seein'em scamperin' around the brushpiles down by the pond, big as tennis balls, keep thinking a half dozen on a skewer. Thinkin' of eatin' mice though, hafta be hungry. And there 'bout as many as rabbits as mice, and there more meat on them. Still, mice ain't like rats, these anyway. Probably mostly vegetarian. Somethin' happened in the news today was important, if I remember aright. Don't remember though, what day is it? Thursday. Guess it'll keep. Sat 16 Sep 2023 08:32:58 PM CDT Some says commies have no sense of humor. We non-commies sure do. Hope the regime ain't trolling this far down yet, dunno how much the operators of patriot sites analyze their traffic, or if the commies dumb enough not to hide using a VPN, but figure they must be at least that smart. Since most of us do can't tell the difference. Speakin' of politics, the Bushies attempt to get rid of the Texas AG failed miserably , despite a couple of RINOs actually voting to impeach. Way things are they may be out next election, seems Texas is wakin' up a bit. Maybe Paxton go after some dims now, it ain't like they haven't done plenty. Way things look Trump may actually win no matter how much they do. Last time it was close and even Plandemic II may not work, especially if a third (or even fourth) party runs. Seems some dude showed up at an RFKjr event with a fed badge and couple of guns, probably the regime sending him a message. Will they really do it if he runs? Of course they will, but the results could be interesting. Dunno if he got the balls to do it, or if he's crazy enough. Mon 18 Sep 2023 08:49:50 PM CDT One of those things you wonder about, remembering something near fifty years ago for no apparent reason. Remembering it so vividly and the details that is. Dude I hung with some, dunno why. Fun to hang with I guess, couple hot older sisters, one seriously hot, a younger one was OK. Still livin' with his mom, dropped in at the house on night, big sis (the really hot one) had one of them cute little stereos as we called'em, put on BVTATCN, one of them that grabbed me right away and a fave fifty years later. Of course the "opener" set the hook, since he played side B first, Grace's unmistakable voice, how I'd missed this one so far I dunno. I hadn't been a serious Airplane fan, liked some of their stuff but not like eagerly awaiting and buying every album like Deep Purple.&ensp Until Ritchie left for the first time that is. Anyhow Grace, Paul and David did some stuff, later Jefferson Starship would coalesce around those three. I did buy all their stuff, and was OK with Starship too, they got big without losing their charm. Anyhow BVTATCN stuffed a lot of talent, some seasoned and some new, it there:
Who did what:
Paul Kantner --- vocals on all tracks except "Across the Board" and "Fishman", rhythm guitar on all tracks except "Across the Board" and "Fishman", glass harmonica on "Harp Tree Lament" and "White Boy" Grace Slick --- vocals, piano on all tracks except "Ballad of the Chrome Nun", "Flowers of the Night", and "Harp Tree Lament" David Freiberg --- vocals on all tracks except "Across the Board" and "Fishman", piano on "Ballad of the Chrome Nun", "Harp Tree Lament", keyboards on all other tracks except "Walkin'" and "Fishman" John Barbata --- drums, percussion Chris Ethridge --- bass on all tracks except "Your Mind Has Left Your Body", "White Boy", "Across The Board" and "Fishman" Jerry Garcia --- guitar on all tracks except "Flowers of the Night", "Your Mind Has Left Your Body", and "Harp Tree Lament", steel guitar on "Ballad of the Chrome Nun" and "Your Mind Has Left Your Body", banjo on "Walkin'" Craig Chaquico --- lead guitar on "Ballad of the Chrome Nun", "Flowers of the Night", and "Fishman" David Crosby --- vocals on "The Ballad of the Chrome Nun" Jack Traylor --- acoustic guitar on "Flowers of the Night", vocals on "Flowers of the Night", "White Boy", and "Sketches of China" Jack Casady --- bass on "Your Mind Has Left Your Body", "White Boy", "Across The Board" and "Fishman" The Pointer Sisters --- vocals on "Fat" Papa John Creach --- electric violin on "Walkin'" Mickey Hart --- gongs on "Your Mind Has Left Your Body" and "Sketches of China", water phones on "Your Mind Has Left Your Body" Jorma Kaukonen --- lead guitar on "Your Mind Has Left Your Body" Mon 25 Sep 2023 09:59:36 PM CDT Hadn't bought the 5-packs of regulars in a while, never did smoke the grape ones. Grape cigars about as weird as grape jelly to me. Now I may try someovthem white grape some's got, don't remember who, havta look'em up. Probly have to order'em, round here the stores don't have much outside the basic stuff. Like them little regular ones though, even if the foil wrapper sometimes hard to get off. Anyhow it made me think of Cigar Dave a few years back, talkin' to someone at one of them premium makers, they'd been bought by the Swisher. Don't remember which one, anyhow they's talkin' bout how it was a good thing, bein' owned by Swisher. Guess so, I ain't sophisticated any more, no more cigars in fancy boxes and tubes and such, nor high-dollar likkers. Like things that taste good and fun to eat and drink and smoke. Ramen fun to eat, ain't even sure it tastes that good. Guess it does, but the fun of takin' a cocktail fork and dippin in the styrofoam cup and twisting the noodles around it, and then thinkin' do I drink the juice or not? Always do. Still hot and dry and October almost here. Hope the wet gets here soon, get to plantin' trees and other fall stuff. Buenos noches muchachos. Mon 25 Sep 2023 09:59:36 PM CDT Quickie sketch I did over at Brushy Lake. Where the old house was. Something like that anyways. About 30 x 80, 10' walls builder says 80K not including concrete. Pretty decent, but he ain't been up to the site. Figured one time about gettin' one of them new 18x80 mobile homes, they over 80K but turnkey. Also blow away in tornadoes, and if I inside wouldn't like it for sure. Ever tell you about the time I was... 'course I have. It on the lee side as it were of the ridge, about a hundred feet from the base, four hundred feet of hills above. Never heard of a tornado hittin' closer than about 10-12 miles further east. Still this thang be a lot sturdier than a regular building, learned a bit. Posts and rafters closer together, same with middle joists. Some of that was having to get up in the attic, which was pretty good since the insulation sprayed on the outside walls and just big empty space in there. But the four foot spaces of drywall to fall through, so double up the joists get to just over two feet and put a catwalk over'em. And then go twelve foot walls and that attic is big, almost stand up. So there'tis. Probably a 20x30 wing on each end. Hafta figure on it some more. Sat 30 Sep 2023 08:27:28 PM CDT My first encounter with Irish Mist was in the late '70s, first duty station after tech school, overseas (Europe anyway) the bases had nice likker stores. Nice lots of stuff, the BX had a separate hi-fi store on some, stereo as they called it then (buy new car, first thing put in a new 'stereo'). Get the good stuff at good prices, bein' as they was sellin' pretty much at cost plus operating expense. Get serious stuff in the better ones, we used to drive up to RAF Mildenhall once in a while. We al had big rigs in our rooms, we two in a room usually whichever was there first had his stuff, wasn't enough room for both to do it. Anyhow, same with likker, quite affordable, drink whatever you want without bustin' the budget. Was one little problem in England - American whiskey was rationed. Something like four bottles a month 'fi remember. Same with cigarettes. Both was expensive as all get-out in the UK, and GIs that didn't use theirs be sellin' to the natives. Buy all the scotch you want, if you want, which I didn't and don't. So I experimented, tried stuff just because, came across Irish Mist. Nice. Been drinkin' ever since, it usually a midnight libation these days, glass of Mist and a seegar out on the front deck. Back deck probably feelin' neglected since I rebuilt after the tornado. View's better. Only thing ever bothered me was and to put the Mist in the fridge, if you don't want it to melt the ice so fast and water it down. Well, Jess keeps some Arbor Mist chilled, so there's a dedicated fridge in the bar. Okey-dokey. Was kinda disappointed when they started puttin' in in a regular whiskey bottle lookin' thing. Probably one of the companies that bought it decided to go cheap. Now it looks like all the other stuff. Anyhow you drink something forty years or so, might as well keep on doin' it. And that's all for September. Hope October cools things off. With rain.
