"It looks like grass-roots guerilla warfare," Gordon said.  "Who knows how organized they are but it's pretty consistent all over.  As if they're trying to cut off the cities.  Make them a bigger problem than the one they already have." 

"How do they make that happen?" Alex asked.

"Attacking the infrastructure that supplies them.  Millions of people who never worked a day in their lives, dependent on the government for everything.  There's at most a few days of food, and they have no idea how to get it, having had it given to them all their lives.  And with no electricity and in some places water, what's going to happen in those places?"

"I don't want to know."

"Neither do I," said Gordon.  "But they created two monsters - one that's tired of being brutalized by the government and an even bigger one that's going to go completely crazy.  Uncontrollable."

"I've been hearing the 'term martial' law," said Jessica.  "Are they serious?"

"I would imagine so," Gordon replied.

"They'll no doubt try," Alex said.  "Do they have any idea... never mind."

"Yeah," Gordon said.  "Given their current state of delusion, they have no idea of what will happen if they try it.  The total strength of the Army is barely over a million - reserves and National Guard included.  Think about that - they could barely control the situation in the cities, and even that's questionable.  There are three million square miles of land to cover.  Let that sink in for a minute.
